Thai, Northern in Thailand

Thai, Northern in Thailand
The large Northern Thai community dominates north and northwest Thailand, being centered around the city of Chiang Mai. They have followed Buddhism for 1,000 years. Like other Theravada Buddhists, they today mix their beliefs with numerous animistic rituals. Protestant missionaries have worked in northern Thailand for about 150 years, but response from the Northern Thai has been painstakingly slow.
Ministry Obstacles
The belief system of the Thai people doesn't emphasize the reality of sin, and the need for forgiveness. They may not know they need a Savior.
Outreach Ideas
Much sustained prayer is needed to cause the Thai to become aware of their spiritual need. May the Lord open the eyes of the Thai.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are some followers of Christ among the Northern Thai. Pray they will not mix Buddhist or animistic beliefs with the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for strong commitment to Christ, and for holy living.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Northern Thai will increasingly desire a solution for their sin problem. Pray they will desire a Savior, someone who can provide forgiveness for sin and power to live this life victoriously.
Scripture Focus
"Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised." 1 Chronicles 16:24-25
