Rizeigat of Sudan
The Rizeigat are a Muslim and Arabic tribe of the
nomadic Bedouin Baggara people living in Sudan's Darfur region. They are
the largest and most powerful of the Arab peoples in Darfur. Like most
nomads, their identity and livelihoods are linked through their animals.
Those in the north parts of Sudan usually herd camels, while those
farther south raise cattle. The nomads are aware of their lack of
education and therefore influence. This leads to a desire for education
which pressures them to convert to a sedentary lifestyle with the idea
of making education more accessible. Although most Rizeigat are somewhat
nomadic, there are some that live in farming communities or towns.Ministry Obstacles Access to the Darfur area by outsiders is restricted, and nomadic peoples are difficult to build relationships with. Outreach Ideas Perhaps many in the Rizeigat tribe, especially the youth, will discover the availability of scripture, the Jesus film and other good resources on the Internet. Pray they will be prompted to download, view and listen to these resources, and will be given understanding. Pray for the followers of Christ There are probably no followers of Jesus today among the Rizeigat tribe. However, be in prayer for the many who will soon come to saving faith in Christ. They will need teachers to help them grow spiritually, and they will need pastors to shepherd them. Pray for the entire people group Please pray for peace throughout Sudan, including the Darfur region, home of the Rizeigat.
