Kapu of India

The word Kapu, or Kaapu, in Telugu, means protector. Kapu subcastes have evolved based on occupation. Those who engaged in trade were referred to as Balija. Balijas who took up military service and protected trading caravans were called Balija Nayakulu or Balija Naidu. A significant number of Kapus have today diversified into industry, arts, and academia. However, substantial segments of the population are still farmers. Modern day Kapus have banded together to fight for their political rights in the caste system. They have also organized agricultural unions to protect their way of life. They are nearly all Hindu.
Ministry Obstacles
Not wanting to acknowledge the reality of sin and the need for forgiveness of sin is sometimes an obstacle to accepting the Gospel message. Hindus especially may not fully acknowledge the presence of sin in their lives.
Outreach Ideas
Perhaps the Christians among the Kapu will grow in spiritual maturity and in numbers to the point they will be able to carry the Gospel effectively to the entire people group. Pray workers will be sent to help them reach this goal.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are a few Kapu individuals who have reported themselves as Christians to the Indian census. Pray for these people, and for other Christians who did not report themselves to the census. They need to be nurtured and taught the ways of Christ, and this requires teachers.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray for adequate employment opportunities for the Kapu, for pure water to drink, and for educational opportunities for the youth.
