Reshiat, Daasanach of Ethiopia

Reshiat, Daasanach of Ethiopia
The Daasanach are a people with a fairly recent history. Their ties to one another have resulted from a common place of residence rather than from heredity. The Daasanach are known for their fighting prowess and are feared by many neighboring groups, such as the Gabbra and Turkana. Raids to obtain more cattle are celebrated, and Daasanach warriors are proud of the number of enemy they have killed. Their unique culture is valued, and the Daasanach are reluctant to adopt outside technology.
Ministry Obstacles
The commitment of these people to tradition will make it difficult to accept a world view which places Christ at its center.
Outreach Ideas
Scripture portions and Gospel recordings are available in the language of the Reshiat people. Pray their hearts will be prepared and for workers to take these resources to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the few followers of Christ among this people will be favored by the remainder of the tribe, and will honor Christ by their exemplary conduct.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for peace between the Reshiat tribe and neighboring tribes, and for mutual respect.
Scripture Focus
"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?' Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest." John 4:35
