Gaisu, Southern in China

Gaisu, Southern in China
The Southern Gaisu observe the Tenth Month Celebration, held to celebrate the end of the harvest season. They sacrifice a pig to honor their ancestors and seek the blessing of the spirits for the upcoming year. The Southern Gaisu are polytheists. They worship many deities, ghosts and spirits. Days are set aside for the worship of the spirits. Ancestor worship is also widely practiced. Food is prepared and placed before pictures of dead family members. Most Southern Gaisu have been assimilated into Han Chinese culture.
Ministry Obstacles
The Gaisu may have little concept of a personal God who offers them forgiveness (through the work of His Son on the cross), and who desires to be their friend.
Outreach Ideas
Some have observed that people who are animists/polytheists are "pre-Christian". They have a foundation for recognizing the truths of the Christian Gospel message.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Only a relative handful of Southern Gaisu are Christians. Few missionaries focused on them in the past. Devoted and love-filled laborers are still required today in order for the Gaisu to turn to Christ. Pray for laborers, and pray for the current believers. Pray that resources (Scripture, films, etc.) and missionaries will be sent to them.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the entire Gaisu community to be delivered from the bondage of polytheism and ancestor worship. Pray they will be set free.
Scripture Focus
"Having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people." Revelation 14:6
