Monba, Cona of China The Monba, or Tsangla, are outwardly Tibetan Buddhists, but the majority continue to practice shamanistic and polytheistic rituals. Many rural people practice "river burial," by which a corpse is cut into 108 pieces and hurled into a rushing river. The Monba believe that all disease is caused by demons. They feel they are forced to sacrifice their valuable cattle and horses to pacify the angry demons. They also believe humans can be demons who cause sickness.
