Sanglechi of Tajikistan

Sanglechi of Tajikistan This people group is very proud of its unique culture and language, and is quite hospitable to foreigners. The majority live in one city: Ishkashim. This is at high elevation at the southern tip of Tajikistan on the Afghanistan border. Many of the men seek employment in Russia. The women dress very modestly with long dresses and head scarves. Islam mixed with Zoroastrianism and other traditional beliefs is the basis of their religion. However, they would claim all of their beliefs are a part of Muslim culture. Ministry Obstacles Access to the Sanglechi people of Tajikistan and Afghanistan is restricted, and there is a lack of Christian resources available in the language of the people. Outreach Ideas Pray that those who work in Russia will come in contact with believers who would be drawn to share the gospel with them. Pray for the followers of Christ There probably are no followers of Jesus among the Sanglechi people at this time, but pray for those that will soon come to follow Christ. Pray the Lord is preparing teachers to instruct them properly in the ways of God, and pastors to shepherd them.
