Aghori of Nepal

Aghori of Nepal
The main source of subsistence for the Aghori has been begging and consuming leftovers from feasts or hotels. Some are rickshaw-pullers or laborers. However, today there are some in government and private service. Social control is maintained by a headman (mukhia). The priest (sardar-naya) and the treasurer (bhandari) are the other officials. Unless the council's decisions are obeyed, the offender is usually excommunicated. They worship family deities (gosai) such as Bhairals, Bishahar, and Panchunath.
Ministry Obstacles
This community of India and Nepal probably has little if any understanding of the person of Jesus Christ. They have a worldview quite different than that of the Christian.
Outreach Ideas
Some of the people in this community speak a language (Hindi, Maithili) that has many Christian resources available. Scripture and the Jesus film are available in these languages, as examples. Workers are needed to carry these resources to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are no known believers in this community today, in either India or Nepal. But pray the Lord is even now preparing teachers and pastors for those who will soon come to faith.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray this poor community will be able to find good employment and will be able to find ways out of poverty.
Scripture Focus
"Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples." Psalm 96:3
