Aguri of India

Aguri of India
The Aguri are a cultivating and trading caste. It has been said, "They are by nature an aggressive and hostile people." Some are farmers owning their land, and others work as farm laborers for others. Some of the younger generation have moved out of the village and now live in Kolkata and different parts of India. Their villages do not have schools for higher education so most of the children after class five drop out and become farmers. It is the very fortunate ones who go on to a higher level of education. They worship Shiva, the destroyer. They have spiritual hunger for knowing the truth.
Ministry Obstacles
Spiritual opposition will surely be encountered as Jesus is presented to these people, worshippers of Shiva the destroyer.
Outreach Ideas
Christians already in this community very much need to be discipled. As they grow in maturity and in numbers they will someday be capable of reaching all of their community with the Gospel.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are a number of Christians among the Aguri. Please pray teachers will be sent to these people so they can be accurately instructed in the ways of God.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray that more schools will be established by the government, for access to pure water, and for good harvests for the farmers.
Scripture Focus
"Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed." Acts 17:30-31
