Soninke, Sarakole of Gambia

Soninke, Sarakole of Gambia
Everyone occupies a place in the Soninke social organization. Being king or a smith was not by choice, it was an inherited position. This hierarchy is very important in Soninke culture. This structural social organization is divided into three levels. The highest levels are the rulers and priests and educators, and the lowest level is the slaves which form the major part of the labor force. The different Soninke social classes do not marry one another. The Soninke were one of the first West African ethnic groups to convert to Islam.
Ministry Obstacles
The social structure within Soninke society may inhibit the flow of the Gospel when it comes.
Outreach Ideas
Pray that some of the Christian tribes in Gambia will be led to take the Gospel of Christ to the Soninke people. Pray that any tribal hostilities will be overcome.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a few followers of Jesus among the Soninke tribe of Gambia, but even this much isn't certain. Pray the Lord is now preparing hearts to receive the good news of Christ when it comes to them.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Soninke people will have adequate medical care, clean water, and schools for their children.
