Aimaq, Timuri of Iran

Aimaq, Timuri of Iran
The Tyemur (or Timuri) are a mixture of Iranian, Mongolian, and Central Asian. Their name possibly comes from Timur Baktior, who was the emir of much of the Islamic world in the late 14th century. After the conquest, he forced Islam upon the people and they embraced the Persian culture. Many women are carpet weavers. The Timuri are known for their elaborate Heart Baluch rugs. Mothers teach their daughters to create rug patterns of their ancestors from wool on portable looms. Their language is a synthesis of languages, although most speakers would understand the Farsi language.
Ministry Obstacles
The religious leaders in this area are often hostile toward Christianity.
Outreach Ideas
Strategies should incorporate story-telling and music, as the Timuri are an oral and musical people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are no known followers of Jesus Christ among this people, but pray for those the Lord will soon call to Himself. The Timuri are fond of talking about religion. Pray that God will arrange conversations between them and individuals who can point them to Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
Medical missions could be effective to address the following: 19 percent of the children under the age of five are undernourished; tuberculosis, malaria, and waterborne illnesses continue to be problematic. Other challenges include lack of health and sanitation education, and community welfare needs.
