Beidalao of China

Beidalao of China
The Beidalao inhabit parts of Rong'an and Rongshui counties in the northern part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Beidalao have lost the use of their own customs, and have replaced them with numerous customs and ceremonies borrowed from the peoples alongside whom they have lived for centuries. Even their clothing reflects the Dong and Miao who live in the Rongshui County area. Animism and polytheism are the major religions among the Beidalao. They also worship their "close" ancestors to the third or fourth generation. "Distant" ancestors (i.e., more than four generations) are not worshiped regularly but are included at annual ceremonies.
Ministry Obstacles
Spiritual opposition can be expected whenever Jesus is presented to a people or to a person. Workers need to be prepared for this.
Outreach Ideas
Gospel recordings are available in the language of the Beidalao. Pray for workers to take these to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be no followers of Jesus Christ among the Beidalao today. Pray the Lord will stir the hearts of these people to worship the creator God, not created things or ancestors.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray the Beidalao people will be able to provide a good education for their children. Pray for those who are unable to care adequately for their own needs; that the community and perhaps governmental agencies will step up to their responsibility to assist.
Scripture Focus
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedlingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21

Trumai of Brazil

Trumai of Brazil
The Trumai have settled on the upper Xingu River, moving there in the 19th century as a result of attacks from another people group. They live in four villages in Xingu National Park: Terra Preta, Boa Esperanca, Steinen and Terra Nova. They are farmers, growing primarily manioc, peppers, and beans. The Trumai language is not closely related to other languages, and is severely endangered as children are becoming native speakers of Aweti, Suya, or Portuguese.
Ministry Obstacles
The Trumai are a tiny tribe, and may be very insular. Christian resources are unavailable in their mother tongue.
Outreach Ideas
Christians need to find ways to befriend the Trumai people, showing true concern for their material and physical needs.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are a few followers of Christ among the Trumai tribe. Pray they will hate that which is evil and cling to what is good, being joyful in hope.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Trumai tribe will be able to flourish in rapidly changing times, and that good schools will be available to the children.
Scripture Focus
"The time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory." Isaiah 66:18

Kapu of India

Kapu of India
The word Kapu, or Kaapu, in Telugu, means protector. Kapu subcastes have evolved based on occupation. Those who engaged in trade were referred to as Balija. Balijas who took up military service and protected trading caravans were called Balija Nayakulu or Balija Naidu. A significant number of Kapus have today diversified into industry, arts, and academia. However, substantial segments of the population are still farmers. Modern day Kapus have banded together to fight for their political rights in the caste system. They have also organized agricultural unions to protect their way of life. They are nearly all Hindu.
Ministry Obstacles
Not wanting to acknowledge the reality of sin and the need for forgiveness of sin is sometimes an obstacle to accepting the Gospel message. Hindus especially may not fully acknowledge the presence of sin in their lives.
Outreach Ideas
Perhaps the Christians among the Kapu will grow in spiritual maturity and in numbers to the point they will be able to carry the Gospel effectively to the entire people group. Pray workers will be sent to help them reach this goal.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are a few Kapu individuals who have reported themselves as Christians to the Indian census. Pray for these people, and for other Christians who did not report themselves to the census. They need to be nurtured and taught the ways of Christ, and this requires teachers.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray for adequate employment opportunities for the Kapu, for pure water to drink, and for educational opportunities for the youth.
Scripture Focus
"All nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord, they will bring glory to your name." Psalm 86:9

Samogho of Mali

Samogho of Mali
The majority of the Samogho practice various ethnic religions, and a sizable minority is Muslim. Like many other West African tribes, the Samogho practice the tradition of worshipping dead ancestors. The people also believe that the "supreme god" is too distant to worship directly and that, therefore, the only way to serve him or to worship him is through a spirit. Consequently, a Samogho will worship a statue or another object believed to house a spirit. The spirit, in return, will supposedly give the worship to the supreme god on behalf of the tribesman.
Ministry Obstacles
There is no scripture reported for the language of the Samogho nor are other Christian resources available. This will make it especially difficult to win and disciple people in this tribe.
Outreach Ideas
Much prayer needs to precede workers going to the Samoghe. Their hearts and minds need to be prepared to understand and believe.
Pray for the followers of Christ
It is questionable as to whether there are any followers of Jesus among the Samogho tribe. If there are any, they are few in number and need our prayers. Pray for those the Lord will call to himself from this tribe, that they will fully rest in the finished work of Christ on the cross for their salvation.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray for peace in Mali, and for adequate rainfall for the crops and livestock of the people.
Scripture Focus
"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done." Psalm 105:1

Cun of China

Cun of China
The Cun were originally Han Chinese people who migrated to Hainan Island and intermingled with the Li people. After many centuries they developed their own language and ethnic identity. The Cun are simple-hearted people. They are extremely poor and do not wear a traditional dress unique to their people. Their main concerns are for the welfare of their families and the annual success of their crops. Most Cun are animists, but religion does not play a very important role in their daily lives. Although most Cun live in complete spiritual darkness and neglect, promising signs have occurred in recent years. In 1994 a Hong Kong-based mission gave Bible training to several Cun, with promising results.
Ministry Obstacles
There is no scripture reported in the Cun language, nor are there other resources to help the Cun understand the Gospel of Christ.
Outreach Ideas
Pray for Han Chinese believers to help disciple the few Christians among the Cun people, teaching them rightly the ways of Christ and giving them a vision to reach the remainder of the Cun people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a growing number of believers among the Cun people, please pray for them to live holy lives and learn to walk in the power of God's Spirit. Pray they will grow in numbers and maturity such that they can take the Gospel to all of their own people.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray the Cun will increasingly be given the gift of conviction of sin, with a desire for forgiveness. This will prepare them when the Gospel comes.
Scripture Focus
"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done." Psalm 105:1

Aghori of Nepal

Aghori of Nepal
The main source of subsistence for the Aghori has been begging and consuming leftovers from feasts or hotels. Some are rickshaw-pullers or laborers. However, today there are some in government and private service. Social control is maintained by a headman (mukhia). The priest (sardar-naya) and the treasurer (bhandari) are the other officials. Unless the council's decisions are obeyed, the offender is usually excommunicated. They worship family deities (gosai) such as Bhairals, Bishahar, and Panchunath.
Ministry Obstacles
This community of India and Nepal probably has little if any understanding of the person of Jesus Christ. They have a worldview quite different than that of the Christian.
Outreach Ideas
Some of the people in this community speak a language (Hindi, Maithili) that has many Christian resources available. Scripture and the Jesus film are available in these languages, as examples. Workers are needed to carry these resources to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are no known believers in this community today, in either India or Nepal. But pray the Lord is even now preparing teachers and pastors for those who will soon come to faith.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray this poor community will be able to find good employment and will be able to find ways out of poverty.
Scripture Focus
"Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples." Psalm 96:3

Have You Seen Our Annual Report?

A Look Back on 2014

2014 was an incredible year for us in terms of our impact on the persecuted as
you will see in our annual report. Read ICC's 2014 Annual Report

We made a difference in the lives of so many because concerned individuals like yourself gave generously as we worked together to build and bandage the persecuted body of Christ.

Our giving today and tomorrow will determine the level of service we will provide in 2015.

Our giving is running behind budget and that will cause us to have to cut back our plans to serve the persecuted in 2015.

If you haven't given a year-end gift, would you please make a generous year-end donation so we can open the prison doors, send the Word into areas where it is not allowed, and care for the martyr's widow?

Thank you so much for your incredible care for the persecuted.

In Christ,

Jeff King

Tuareg, Asben of Niger

Tuareg, Asben of Niger
The Tuareg are a Berber people, with the name "Tuareg" coming from the Berber name for a Libyan province. They have been a largely nomadic people, occuping large areas of desert and the Sahel. Each Tuareg clan is made up of several family groups, led by their collective chief. In Tuareg society women do not traditionally wear the veil, whereas men do. The veil is often blue in color. Tuareg women have great freedom and participate in family and tribal decisions. They have been Muslim for generations, but have preserved many pre-Islamic traditions.
Ministry Obstacles
Access to the Tuareg is somewhat limited, both by the terrain and by the strongly held Muslim beliefs of the people.
Outreach Ideas
The New Testament and Gospel recordings are available in the language of this tribe. Pray for Christian radio to also be made available to the remote areas occupied by the Tuareg.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a few followers of Jesus among the Asben Tuareg. Pray for these people, and for others who will soon join them. They will need to be instructed in the Christian faith and protected from discouragement and sinful behavior.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Tuareg tribes will have adequate rainfall for their herds and crops. Pray for peaceful relations with neighboring tribes, and with the governments of Niger and Mali.
Scripture Focus
"Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name." 1 Chronicles 16:28-29

Mahishya of India

Mahishya of India
The Mahishya are often landowners, and are engaged in agriculture. The landless among them earn a living by working as agricultural laborers. Some serve as soldiers and many pursue white-collar jobs. The caste council in the village maintains social norms within the community. Traditionally they do not accept water from the lower castes. The Mahishya have a relatively high literacy rate. Generally, both boys and girls study up to the secondary level. They are Hindu, and Brahman priests, acharyas or astrologers are their sacred specialists on special occasions.
Ministry Obstacles
Spiritual darkness can keep the light of the Gospel from having an effect. Pray for the light to overcome the darkness.
Outreach Ideas
Perhaps Christians in communities near the Mahishya will be able to help Mahishya Christians become mature in the faith. As they grow in maturity and numbers, they will eventually be capable of reaching the entire community.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Several hundred Mahishya have reported themselves as Christians to the census of India. These people need prayer support. Pray they will learn to walk in the power of God's Sprit, and will live lives of obedience with hearts of gratitude and love for Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
Spiritual matters are spiritually discerned, or understood. Please pray the Lord will give the gift of understanding to the Mahishya, that they may see their need and opportunity to know and serve Jesus Christ.
Scripture Focus
"Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations." Luke 24:46-47

Bozo-Hain of Mali

Bozo-Hain of Mali
Bozos are a nomadic people and are thus on the move. In general, tribal groups are refugees, living in perpetual fear of aggression from other tribes or powerful civilizations. Often they are able to survive by living where no one else would want the land. There is very little education within this group, but they are becoming more aware of the world outside. They are animistic; beneath the Muslim surface there is a strong animistic undercurrent. They have their own distinctive religious system and worldview.
Ministry Obstacles
Scripture is not available in the language of this group, and Mali is not generally hospitable to Christian workers.
Outreach Ideas
The Bozos are a nomadic people and are thus on the move. It is important to be willing to travel along with them.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are probably no followers of Jesus among this group in Mali. But pray the Lord is even now preparing teachers and pastors for those who will soon come to him.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Bozo tribe will be able to provide a good education for their children, and become well prepared to live in a rapidly changing society. Also, pray for peace with other tribes.

Tajik, Sarikoli of China

Tajik, Sarikoli of China
The Tajik are probably the one group in China most unlike the Han Chinese. They are a Caucasian people with light skin. The Sarikoli Tajik in China are a separate ethnolinguistic group from the Central Asian Tajik. The Sarikoli Tajiks have lived in tribal and clan structures for centuries. Their homes are built with stone for protection against the extreme cold. The Tajiks are one of the few groups in China who adhere to the Shi'a sect of Islam. They do not have mosques. Instead, they meet in their homes once a week for prayer and worship. Before the arrival of Islam in the tenth century, most Tajiks were Christians, having been converted by Nestorian missionaries starting in the seventh century.
Ministry Obstacles
No scripture or other Christian resources are reported as available in the Sarikoli language.
Outreach Ideas
Perhaps the Lord will give some Han Chinese Christians an interest in this Muslim group. Pray they will be able to overcome any fear of this Muslim community.
Pray for the followers of Christ
The Tajik are one of the most unreached groups in China. There may not be a single follower of Christ among this group in China. Pray the Lord will remember the prayers of Christian Tajiks of long ago, as they prayed for their descendants.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray for Sarikoli Tajiks to gain an interest in Isa (Jesus) as the Koran is read.

Kanuri, Tumari of Niger

Kanuri, Tumari of Niger
Kanuri became Muslims in the 11th century. The people are intensely proud of their ancient tradition of Islamic statehood. The traditional Kanuri dress consists of large robe-type garments that are worn with turbans or brightly embroidered caps. Social organization emphasizes the importance of the nuclear family and the supreme authority of the father. The greater the number in a household, the more prestige the family head is given. The divorce rate among the Kanuri is extremely high, with eight out of ten marriages ending in divorce.
Ministry Obstacles
The Kanuri people have been strong adherents of their current religion for generations. Change of religion requires change of worldview, and this is difficult. The entire country of Niger is strongly Muslim.
Outreach Ideas
No Christian resources are known to be available in the language of the Tumari Kanuri. Much prayer is needed for the creation of resources, and to prepare the people for the Gospel message.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are probably no followers of Christ today among this people. Please pray for those the Lord will soon call to himself, that the Lord is even now preparing pastors and teachers for them.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray that all Kanuri tribes will be given an increasing desire to know Isa (Jesus) as the Koran is read in the mosque. Pray for spiritual hunger.

Chak, Thet of Myanmar (Burma)

Chak, Thet of Myanmar (Burma)
The Chak people of western Myanmar and neighboring areas of southeast Bangladesh comprise one of the least known Buddhist ethnic groups in the world. They are isolated from outside influence, inhabiting small villages in a tropical forest, and rarely venture outside their communities. There has been very little research done on the Chak people. They were influenced by the Mrauk-U dynasty, one of Myanmar's most powerful kingdoms. The splendor of the Mrauk-U dynasty started to fade in the 1780s, but during its 352 years Buddhism made an impact on all people groups in this area, including the Chak.
Ministry Obstacles
The Chak may be quite fearful of outsiders coming, bringing words and concepts that are difficult to understand. They have a history of isolation.
Outreach Ideas
Perhaps workers trained in telling stories from scripture will be led to the Chak tribe. Gospel recordings are available in the Chak language.
Pray for the followers of Christ
We have no indication there are any followers of Jesus among the Chak people. They may never have heard of Jesus Christ. Pray the Lord is now giving them a hint that people will be coming to them soon with a message about a Savior God.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Chak tribe will see the need to prepare their children for a changing world. Pray for good schools to be made available.
