Three Sheffield clergymen are on a 960-mile cycle challenge for charity
By Dan Wooding, Founder of ASSIST News Service
Phil
Batchford, of the Vine, at Upperthorpe, Graham Duncan, of St Mary’s, at
Bramall Lane, and Harry Steele, of St Peter’s, at Greenhill, will be
using pedal power to support the FoodCycle charity and they will be
camping along the route.
Rev
Batchford said: “We run FoodCycle schemes in the city at The Vine and
at The Baptist Church, on Cemetery Road, and we’re planning to launch
one at St Peter’s and this is all being overseen by St Mary’s.
“FoodCycle
projects involve volunteers using waste food from supermarkets and
other retailers to cook up vegetarian lunches served as community meals
and this supports the fight against poverty and food wastage.”
They
hope to complete their challenge - which started on June 27, 2016 -
within 12 days and have been training hard with rides of up to 100
miles.
They are posting progress of their ride to a special Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/teampainlejog/
