At a camp for displaced people in Nigeria, women gather to study the
Bible – for some, their first contact with the Word of God. In many
villages taken over by the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram, the
rebels prohibit teaching about Christ, and an indigenous church-planting
ministry has expanded its work to such camps for some of the more than
1.5 million people internally displaced in Nigeria. The indigenous
ministry is able to purchase Hausa-language and other Bibles and
distribute them in the camps. It is also helping to meet the basic needs
of the displaced, providing food and medicines. “Many of them are
coming to us and listening to us,” the ministry director said. “We share
with them, and they can’t resist Christ – so many of them are accepting
 Jesus Christ in the camps.”
