Chitrali of Pakistan

The Chitrali (or Khow or Kho) is a minority ethnic group in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Chitrali culture is one that places heavy emphasis on poetry, song, and dance. Chitrali people also have a great respect of law and order. This is in contrast to the generally lawless traditions of almost all of the neighboring regions. Much of this can be attributed to Chitral being a stable kingdom for most of its history, where the rule of law and the will of the ruler came before tribal concepts such as revenge and isolationism. Generally, the people living in the southern Chitral area and Chitral Town are very conservative because of the influences from Afghanistan. Most are Sunni Muslim, but a substantial minority is Ismaili, a branch of the Shia. Also, many combine Islamic practices with traditional folk religions.
Ministry Obstacles
Access to the peoples of Pakistan by Christian workers is quite restricted. Creative means of access may be necessary.
Outreach Ideas
Pray that key Chitrali individuals will encounter believers in Christ who will immediately recognize the opportunity to share the hope that exists in Christ.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There probably are no followers of Jesus among the Chitrali. However, pray for those the Lord will soon call to himself, that they will lives of obedience to Christ, and will faithfully fellowship together.
Pray for the entire people group
Thank the Lord the Chitrali community is generally peaceful and law abiding. Pray they will continue to live with this mindset.
