Kurd, Southern in Iran
The Persians, Kurds, and speakers of other
Indo-European languages in Iran are descendants of Aryan tribes that
began migrating from Central Asia into what is now Iran in the 2nd
millennium BC. In present day Iran, Kurds express their cultural
identity freely, but have no self-government or administration. During
the 19th and 20th centuries, successive Iranian governments crushed
Kurdish revolts. The Southern Kurds of Iran live primarily along the
Iraq-Iran border in the Iranian provinces of Kermanshah and Luristan.
The Kurds of this region make their living in much the same way as their
relatives in Turkey and Iraq: farming and raising cattle and goats.
Southern Kurds are primarily Shia Muslim, and this has created tension
with Kurdish groups which are Sunni Muslim.Ministry Obstacles Access to Kurdish areas by outsiders is restricted. Outreach Ideas The Lord is calling many Kurds to himself, and there is a growing community of Christians among the Kurds. Pray these people will grow in number and maturity such that they will be able to effectively take the Gospel message to all Kurds. Pray for the followers of Christ Please pray for the Southern Kurds who know and follow Jesus, few in number. Pray they may be filled with joy and peace, and overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Pray for the entire people group Pray for peace in Iran between the Kurdish minority and the Iranian government. Pray also for adequate rainfall for crops and livestock. Scripture Focus "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed" Acts 17:30-31 |
