Foodo of Benin

Foodo of Benin
The Foodo originated in Ghana. They immigrated to Benin and have been in the Semere region for at least 300 years. The Foodo are primarily farmers. They are a friendly people who are proud of their heritage. Many want to ensure that their language does not change due to surrounding influences. They feel they need written material in their language and opportunities for the people to learn to read and write. The Foodo are virtually all Sunni Muslim. However, a few traditional animistic practices still persist among some. Such practices are done in secret, since animists are looked down upon by the Foodo.
Ministry Obstacles
The literacy rate of these people is low. The Gospel of Christ needs to come in oral form, and eventually, in written form.
Outreach Ideas
The Foodo desire to learn to read, and they desire more written materials in their language. This is an opportunity for literacy workers. Gospel recordings are available in their language, also.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the few Christian believers among the Foodo will live holy lives, full of grace and truth. Pray they will seek ways to share the good news of Christ with family and friends.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for improved medical care for this tribe, and for sanitary health practices.
