Tuareg, Arabized in Niger "Arabized" Tuareg are those who have adopted the Arabic language as their own. At least to this extent, they have become a part of Arab culture. Before French colonization, the Tuareg were organized into loose confederations, each consisting of a dozen or so tribes. Following the independence of African countries in the 1960s, Tuareg territory was artificially divided into modern nations: Niger, Mali, Algeria, Libya, and Burkina Faso. Each Tuareg clan is made up of several family groups, led by their collective chiefs. Ministry Obstacles The Tuareg tribes have strong tribal identity, and Islam is part of that self-identification.
