Berber, Kabyle in Algeria
The Kabyle name derives from the name of the
mountainous region in the north of Algeria, which they traditionally
inhabit. The traditional economy of the area is based on orchards and
olive trees, and tapestry or pottery. The area was gradually taken over
by the French from 1857, despite vigorous local resistance. The armed
Algerian revolutionary resistance to French colonialism, the National
Liberation Front (FLN) recruited several of its historical leaders in
this region.Ministry Obstacles Access to the Kabyle Berbers of Algeria is limited.
