Not many places can claim to have a population that is 100 percent Christian, but Paraguay Island can.
This tiny piece of land in the middle of the Paraguay River, which runs between Paraguay and Argentina, is home to a community of about 100 people. Wooden houses without water or electricity form a neighborhood with no roads. The only industry is fishing for surubĂ, a prized fish which is then sold in nearby Formosa, Argentina. The people are friendly and live simple lives — and every one of them is part of an EHC Christ Group.
This wasn’t always the case, however. Only a few years ago, the people of Paraguay Island practiced Guarani customs — if they observed any religion at all — and the chief was revered as a shaman. Nobody knew the Bible.
But all that changed the day Maximino got sick.
