Khmer, Northern in Thailand

Khmer, Northern in Thailand
The Northern Khmer are mostly found in the lower northeast of Thailand, in the provinces of Buriram, Surin, and Sisaket, which border Cambodia. They have lived in this area even longer than the Thai. In Thailand, many Khmer are migrant laborers, especially in the dry season, and can be found on construction sites in Bangkok and in fruit and sugarcane plantations. They dress much like the Thai, but with distinctive colors and patterns in their sarongs. Outwardly they are followers of the Thai national religion of Theravada Buddhism, with a strong admixture of spirit-worship and divination. The Khmer are known (and sometimes feared) within Thailand for their powers of witchcraft and sorcery.
Ministry Obstacles
Spiritual opposition can be expected when Jesus is presented to people from a Buddhist/Animist background.
Outreach Ideas
There are many evangelical Christians in Thailand. Pray that some will be led by the Lord's Spirit to help disciple the Khmer who already know and follow Christ.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Please pray for the Khmer who know and follow Jesus. Pray they will live holy lives, zealous to know and follow their Lord.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray the Khmer will be completely set free from the powers of darkness, and will be brought into the Savior's marvelous light.
Scripture Focus
"The Lord has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations, That all the ends of the earth may see The salvation of our God." Isaiah 52:10
