Sargara in India The Sargara are a landless community. Their traditional and present-day occupation is splitting and selling wood. Those who breach community norms are fined and ostracized. They profess Hinduism, and Chammunda and Ambajee are their family deities. Their regional deities are Hanumanjee, Shankar, Mahakali and Ramdevjee. The Sargara traditionally do not take food and water from the lower scheduled castes, and food and water from the Sargara are not accepted by the upper castes.
