Trumai of Brazil
The Trumai have
settled on the upper Xingu River, moving there in the 19th century as a
result of attacks from another people group. They live in four villages
in Xingu National Park: Terra Preta, Boa Esperanca, Steinen and Terra
Nova. They are farmers, growing primarily manioc, peppers, and beans.
The Trumai language is not closely related to other languages, and is
severely endangered as children are becoming native speakers of Aweti,
Suya, or Portuguese.
Ministry Obstacles
The Trumai are a tiny tribe, and may be very insular. Christian resources are unavailable in their mother tongue.
Outreach Ideas
Christians need to find ways to befriend the Trumai people, showing true concern for their material and physical needs.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are a few followers of Christ among the Trumai tribe. Pray they will hate that which is evil and cling to what is good, being joyful in hope.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Trumai tribe will be able to flourish in rapidly changing times, and that good schools will be available to the children.
Scripture Focus
"The time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory." Isaiah 66:18 |
