Qazi of Nepal
The Qazi community derives its name from the term
qadi which means "judge." They have a tradition of being the religious
leaders or imams among Muslim groups. The majority of the Qazi live in
Bihar, India, but a good number live in Nepal and Bangladesh, as well.
They are skilled in the art of Islamic religious rites and tend to
perform the traditional ceremonies for the greater Muslim community.
They perform birth, purification, marriage, death, and burial rites. The
Qazi are Muslims of the Hanafi tradition and are virtually 100% Muslim
in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. They enjoy a higher than average social
status because of their general and religious education. The Qazi are a
very strategic community to bring to faith in Christ, as they would be
natural spiritual leaders as followers of Isa, Jesus.Ministry Obstacles As leaders in the Muslim community, the Qazi will find it quite difficult to become followers of Jesus. To do so will bring separation from people and traditions that are important to the Qazi. Outreach Ideas Pray that neighboring believers will have a passion to make Christ known among the Qazi, possibly entering as educators and opening up opportunities for employment. Pray for the followers of Christ There is probably not a single follower of Jesus Christ among the Qazi, not in Nepal, India or Bangladesh. However, please pray for those who will soon place saving faith in Christ. They will need prayer and encouragement to take this bold step. Pray for the entire people group Please pray the Lord will show the Qazi people their great need to find a Savior for their sin problem, and that he will reveal to them a Savior is indeed available. Scripture Focus "Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let them say among the nations, 'The Lord reigns.'" 1 Chronicles 16:31 |
