Cun of China
The Cun were
originally Han Chinese people who migrated to Hainan Island and
intermingled with the Li people. After many centuries they developed
their own language and ethnic identity. The Cun are simple-hearted
people. They are extremely poor and do not wear a traditional dress
unique to their people. Their main concerns are for the welfare of their
families and the annual success of their crops. Most Cun are animists,
but religion does not play a very important role in their daily lives.
Although most Cun live in complete spiritual darkness and neglect,
promising signs have occurred in recent years. In 1994 a Hong Kong-based
mission gave Bible training to several Cun, with promising results.
Ministry Obstacles
There is no scripture reported in the Cun language, nor are there other resources to help the Cun understand the Gospel of Christ.
Outreach Ideas
Pray for Han Chinese believers to help disciple the few Christians among the Cun people, teaching them rightly the ways of Christ and giving them a vision to reach the remainder of the Cun people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a growing number of believers among the Cun people, please pray for them to live holy lives and learn to walk in the power of God's Spirit. Pray they will grow in numbers and maturity such that they can take the Gospel to all of their own people.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray the Cun will increasingly be given the gift of conviction of sin, with a desire for forgiveness. This will prepare them when the Gospel comes.
Scripture Focus
"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done." Psalm 105:1 |
