Chak, Thet of Myanmar (Burma) The Chak people of western Myanmar and neighboring areas of southeast Bangladesh comprise one of the least known Buddhist ethnic groups in the world. They are isolated from outside influence, inhabiting small villages in a tropical forest, and rarely venture outside their communities. There has been very little research done on the Chak people. They were influenced by the Mrauk-U dynasty, one of Myanmar's most powerful kingdoms. The splendor of the Mrauk-U dynasty started to fade in the 1780s, but during its 352 years Buddhism made an impact on all people groups in this area, including the Chak. Ministry Obstacles The Chak may be quite fearful of outsiders coming, bringing words and concepts that are difficult to understand. They have a history of isolation. Outreach Ideas Perhaps workers trained in telling stories from scripture will be led to the Chak tribe. Gospel recordings are available in the Chak language. Pray for the followers of Christ We have no indication there are any followers of Jesus among the Chak people. They may never have heard of Jesus Christ. Pray the Lord is now giving them a hint that people will be coming to them soon with a message about a Savior God.
