Subanen, Tuboy of Philippines

Subanen, Tuboy of Philippines
The name Subanon means "river people". As the name implies, these people originally lived along riverbanks in the lowlands; however due to disturbances from others such as the Muslims, these peace-loving people are now found residing in the mountains. They do not practice division of labor based on gender. Men and women work in the fields together, and men can cook and care for the children when necessary. Subanons have little social stratification. The tribe is said to have no religion, yet they believe in a supreme being they call "Diwata Migbebaya".
Ministry Obstacles
The Gospel needs to come to the Tuboy Subanen in ways they understand, probably orally as well as in print.
Outreach Ideas
Other Subanen tribes have substantial numbers of Christians. Pray some of these will be prompted to take the Gospel to their Tuboy cousins, even though the language may be somewhat different than their own.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a few followers of Jesus among the Tuboy Subanen. Please pray they will live holy lives and learn to live in the power of God's Sprit. They need teachers to teach them how.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray these poor people will be able to care adequately for their families. Pray they will have good crops, and will be able to find employment as well.
Scripture Focus
"After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb." Revelation 7:9
