Tuareg, Tamasheq in Mali

Tuareg, Tamasheq in Mali
The Tuareg are a nomadic pastoralist people, and are the principal inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa. Descended from Berbers in the region that is now Libya, the Tuareg are descendants of ancient Saharan peoples described by Herodotus, who mentions the ancient Libyan people, the Garamantes. In the early nineteenth century, the Tuareg resisted the French invasion of their Central Saharan homelands for the purpose of colonization. After numerous massacres on both sides, the Tuareg were subdued.
Ministry Obstacles
The Tuareg are located in an area of difficult access for outsiders.
Outreach Ideas
Gospel radio can be useful for these people living in a remote region.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the few followers of Christ among the Tuareg will grow both in maturity and in numbers. Pray for qualified pastors and teachers, and for Scripture to be made available to them.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Tuareg to be able to care well for their families, for improved living conditions and for schooling for their children.
Scripture Focus
"And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations." Mark 13:10
