Dutton, a former space shuttle pilot and retired Air Force colonel, has been named to the board of directors of Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH), a ministry that distributes audio versions of the Bible in more than 900 languages.
According to a news release from A. Larry Ross Communications (http://alarryross.com), Dutton, who piloted the Space Shuttle Discovery on a mission to the International Space Station in 2010, became involved with FCBH last year as a member of the advisory council for the Global Bible Network. The network, currently in the development-and-testing stage, will use satellites, mobile phones and other cutting-edge technology to make audio versions of the Bible available anywhere in the world.
“As we got to know Jim, we found that he not only brought a wealth of knowledge to the Global Bible Network, he also brought passion, leadership, and integrity, to our organization as a whole,” said FCBH Vice President Troy Carl. “That's why the board invited him to be a member.”
Dutton, a pilot for Southwest Airlines who retired from the Air Force in 2014, shares the ministry’s vision for getting God's Word to those who haven't heard the Gospel in the most remote areas of the globe.
“So many people in the world have a heart language – a native tongue – that few people speak; they may not even have a written language,” said Dutton. “When these people hear anything in their own language, it makes them feel special. When it's the Word of God, it's really powerful.”
Dutton will serve as a board liaison to the advisory council and report on the Global Bible Network.

Ministry leaders have been encouraged by the initial round of seed funding. If plans go as expected, the Global Bible Network will be completed in two to four years, giving everyone on the planet digital access to God's Word on their cellphone or other mobile device regardless of public internet access. These devices are readily available even in poor countries.
