Tuvinian, Uriankhai of Russia

Tuvinian, Uriankhai of Russia
The Tuvans are a Turkic ethnic group living in southern Siberia. They have historically been cattle-herding nomads, tending to their herds of goats, sheep, camels, reindeer, cattle, and yaks for the past thousands of years. The Tuvinian culture is noted for its rich, oral epic poetry. Tuvinians love music, and a unique form of music exists known as throat singing or khoomei. The traditional religion of Tuvans is a type of Tengrism, or Turkic animistic shamanism. The religion is still widely practiced alongside Tibetan Buddhism.
Ministry Obstacles
Siberia does not provide easy access for Christian workers, and the Tuvninians have a very different worldview than that provided by the Bible.
Outreach Ideas
Pray for Gospel radio to be widely available to these people, and that they will learn of the broadcasts and be drawn to listen.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Please pray for the few Tuvans who identify themselves as Christians, that they will understand the distinction between a cultural or nominal Christian, and one who is a real disciple of Jesus Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
Until Tuva became a part of Russia, very few of the Tuvinian men and none of the women could read. Pray for improving literacy rates for the Tuvans.
Scripture Focus
"See, I will beckon to the Gentiles, I will lift up my banner to the peoples." Isaiah 49:22
