AFHGANISTAN: National elections need your prayer

Afghans are due to vote for parliamentary candidates this weekend, despite violent opposition to the elections from some. But it is unlikely that Afghan believers still in hiding will be voting. In June, CSW reported on heightened threats to Christians after footage was aired of Afghans being baptised. Now, danger remains high, fuelled by further broadcasts and last week’s controversy over one pastor’s plans to burn Qur’ans in Florida.

Please lift all Afghan believers and the newly-elected parliamentarians in prayer this weekend.

France takes heat for Roma solution

Controversy over France’s expulsion of the Roma overshadowed the itinerary at a European Union summit last week.

The EU’s Justice Commissioner said the action was no different from deportations that took place during World War II.

France is now facing possible legal action over its controversial drive to deport ethnic Roma back to Romania and Bulgaria.

A report indicated that nearly 60 percent of French surveyed were in favor of ousting the Roma. In July, French president Nicolas Sarkozy launched the forced closure of 300 illegal migrant camps.

Since then, France kicked out nearly 8,000 Roma to Bulgaria and Romania. But DeYoung says there’s nowhere for them to go. “They’re one of the largest people groups that don’t have their own homeland and are seen as outsiders in the midst of majority populations around the world.”

DeYoung believes the resentment can be traced back to population. France’s birth-rate has been steadily declining, while that of the Roma has been on a steady rise. This issue boils down to identity. “Those who are in the countries – in the ethnic groups – where the birth-rate is low, living side by side with people where the birth-rate is high, there is the fear that they will eventually be minorities in their own country.”

However, Words of Hope has a heart for these people, with years of outreach through broadcasting in Eastern Europe in the Balkan Romani language. “It’s programming that tries to create that sense of common identity, of empathizing with people, even though they may be different. That’s one of the things that we’re trying to do as we broadcast the Gospel.”

As Words of Hope has built an audience, they’ve also seen people come to Christ and plant churches. As the EU grapples with the issues raised by the French/Roma debacle, the Gospel’s simplicity reveals a solution. “It’s a goal to try to bring about the sense of not being all the same, but yet celebrating that common bond that unites us through Jesus Christ.” Keep praying that more hearts will respond.

Father just died, and this just a few weeks after the state bureaucrats pushed my brother to cash in dad's life insurance policy that would have given us a good sum, but recently these bureaucrats ripped us off due to my brother's lack of discretion, real understanding, wisdom, proper planning, and spiritual knowledge of what was going on in the spirit realm. I know that there are several witches involved with this state agency tied somehow to the First Universal Unitarian "church" here and their witchcraft circles (publicly announced), since some other bizarre events occurred recently with these same people and their recently attacks of false accusations against me that I proved were wrong. Please pray for the Lord to work all the issues out, to protect my brother and me from these bureaucrats and the witches who have targeted me since summer of 2009 for my Biblical stance. C.

“We have been holding prayers for the country,” Sharma said. “It is a grim scene today. There is an economic crisis, and Nepal’s youths are fleeing abroad. Women job-seekers abroad are increasingly being molested and tortured. Even the Maoists, who fought for secularism, are now considering creating a cultural king. We are praying that the political deadlock will be resolved, and that peace and stability return to Nepal.”

Please pray for the country of Nepal.

Two thirds of parents in the UK believe children are exposed to unsuitable content on television before the watershed, a survey has shown. An online survey of 1,004 parents of children under the age of 18 revealed that 67 per cent thought inappropriate content was broadcast before 9pm. A further 80 per cent said they felt films and video games with violent or sexual themes can be accessed too easily by children. The research, conducted for The Mothers’ Union, also showed that most parents think television, films, magazines and the Internet make children sexually aware at a younger age. Pray for the media to recognise their responsibility in protecting children and young people. (Deut.5:29). Pray for parents in your community to keep a watchful eye on the content of the material that their children have access to.
