Arab, Iraqi in Iraq
The Arabs have for years formed about 70% of the
total population of Iraq, the majority being of the Shiite branch of
Islam and living in southern Iraq, with the Sunni's living primarily in
central Iraq. Social life is important to Arabs. They like to share a
daily coffee time by sitting on the floor and drinking coffee from cups
without handles. The Apostle Thomas is said to have brought Christianity
to Mesopotamia. The ancient Church was centered in and spread from the
Assyrian city of Arbel, located in the north. The Christian Church has
been a part of Iraqi culture since that time.Ministry Obstacles Iraq is presently in turmoil. This offers both obstacles and opportunities for the Arabs to learn more fully of who Jesus truly is. Outreach Ideas Sustained prayer is needed for the Arabs of Iraq, to prepare them to really understand the Gospel message. Gospel radio, television, Christian websites, and personal witness will all be useful as Arab hearts are prepared to hear and receive. Pray for the followers of Christ Pray for the Iraqi Arabs who know and follow Jesus Christ. Pray for protection for their faith, and for their families. Pray the Lord will encourage them and give them fruit from his Spirit: love, joy, and peace. Pray for the entire people group Pray for peace and stability in Iraq, that the government will be able to maintain order. Pray the various factions within the Arab community will give up hatred and revenge against each other. Pray the current disorder will prepare them for the Gospel of peace that Jesus offers. Scripture Focus "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance." Psalm 33:12 |
