Brahman, Sakaldwipi of India

The Sakaldwipi Brahman is a well-known community in Bihar and North India. They have two subdivisions, Mag and Bhojak. The Mag are superior to Bhojak. Almost all the Sakaldwipi own agricultural land in their villages which is tilled by landless laborers. They traditionally do not accept water and food from other communities, except other Brahman. Each Sakaldwipi family has its own deity, and ancestors are worshipped. Their sacred specialists are from their own community. As priests and astrologers, the Sakaldwipi Brahman have patron-client relationship with other communities.

Ministry Obstacles
The Brahman communities are often prideful, as they are at the top of the caste system. Pride is deadly, because humility is what God requires of a person. Also, low caste Christian workers find it difficult to approach the Brahman.

Outreach Ideas
There are Christian Brahman in other communities. Perhaps some will be led to the Sakaldwipi Brahman, sharing the person of Jesus with them. Pray for this to occur.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There likely are no Christians today among this Brahman group. None have reported themselves this way to the Indian census. However, pray for those who will someday come to Christ. Pray they will learn to walk in humility with their Savior and Lord.

Pray for the entire people group
Please pray for the Brahman communities of India, that the Lord will show them in powerful ways their need for forgiveness of sin, and for power to live this life well. Both are found in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
