Kui, Kuay, Suei of Thailand
In appearance the Kui do do not differ from the
Cambodian Khmers. They have their own language, unwritten until
recently. Most Kui people also speak Khmer and in some places they are
losing their own language. The Kui have an oral culture with high
illiteracy. They typically wear Western type clothing, though women
often wear a sarong. Their beliefs are a mixture of animist and folk
Buddhist ideas with animism being the older and more dominant belief
structure. Many wear strings tied around the neck, waist, or wrists to
ward off evil spirits. They mostly rely on traditional healers in the
case of illness. Many have never heard of Jesus and few have had the
opportunity to hear the Gospel presented in a way that makes sense to
them.Ministry Obstacles A potential obstacle is that the Gospel may come to them only in written form. Since they are an oral society, it needs to come in both oral and written forms. Outreach Ideas Perhaps committed Christian believers in other tribes in Thailand will be prompted by God's Spirit to take the good news of Jesus to the Kui people. Pray they will prepare well for this opportunity.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Please pray for the few people in this tribe who identify themselves as Christians. They need prayer support, living in a Buddhist and animistic environment.
Pray for the entire people group
The Kui have little access to good health care. They could really benefit from health and hygiene education, better access to clean water, and improved agricultural methods.
Scripture Focus
"Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed" Acts 17:30-31 |
