Halwai, Muslim of Pakistan
The Halwais got
there name from the word halwa, which is a 'sweetmeat made from sugar,
flour and butter.' The Halwais are famous as a caste of confectioners
and sweet-shop owners. They still maintain their occupation in many
places of India and Nepal as sellers of sweets and sometimes tobacco.
Because their halwa is often eaten at weddings and festivals, they tend
to have a relatively high social status. The Muslim Halwai can be found
in any number of service or labor jobs. The Halwai follow the birth,
death, and marriage traditions of Sunni Muslims, and the Maulvi is the
name of the spiritual leader who performs those religious rites.
Ministry Obstacles
Christian workers will encounter much spiritual opposition when Jesus the Messiah is presented in Pakistan. Much prayer is needed to prepare for this.
Outreach Ideas
Perhaps people in the Halwai community will discover the availability of the Jesus film as a download from the web. Pray they will listen to scripture on the web and have a craving for the truth.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are no known followers of Jesus among the Halwai community in Pakistan, India or Nepal. Please pray the Lord will prepare teachers and pastors at the proper time for the many Halwai who will one day come to saving faith in Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray for an improving standard of living for individuals in the Halwai community, and for a rising literacy rate, especially for the youth.
Scripture Focus
"For from the rising of the sun, even to its setting, My name will be great among the nations ... says the Lord of hosts." Malachi 1:11 |
