Aneuk Jamee of Indonesia

Aneuk Jamee of Indonesia
The Aneuk Jamee have three classes in their society. The nobles (datuk) form the highest level. The middle level is formed by local leaders (hulu baling), religious leaders such as the prayer leaders (tengku and imam), and Islamic judges (kadi). The common people are at the lowest level. The Aneuk Jamee follow Islam. As with other Indonesian people, they incorporate earlier beliefs and practices into Islam. The services of a shaman (occultist or magical healer) are still frequently used.
Ministry Obstacles
The Aneuk Jamee need to be freed from the fear of spirits and the power their shamans can hold over the community.
Outreach Ideas
A number of good resources are available in the language of the Aneuk Jamee. Pray for workers to bring these to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are only a handful of believers reported in this group. Pray they will meet regularly and encourage one another to learn more about God's word.
Pray for the entire people group
Many of the boats used by the Aneuk Jamee fishermen are actually owned by residents of Medan and Banda Aceh cities. A program to finance the purchase of their own boats would be very strategic. Also, Aneuk Jamee farmers could use agricultural training, more efficient irrigation, and provision of good fertilizer and seeds.
Scripture Focus
"The time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory." Isaiah 66:18
