Urgent: Remind UNHCR of the danger facing Eritrean refugees in Libya

Two weeks ago we asked you to write to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, asking him to intervene to halt the forcible return of Eritrean refugees and asylum seekers who are currently in various Libyan jails, where they are being mistreated by the prison authorities.

Following your initial intervention, the local UNHCR office slowly began to register the refugees, a move that would offer them a measure of protection. However, registrations now appear to have ground to a halt.

Worse still, we have now been informed that on 2 February twelve Eritreans were forcibly returned to Eritrea. According to the Paris-based station Radio Erena, all twelve are former employees of various Eritrean government ministries, and at least two are former air force personnel. This indicates that the Eritrean Embassy is now able to screen detainees and arrange for selective deportations.

Understandably, the remaining prisoners are increasingly anxious and desperate. Please pray!!!

Stop Trafficking Of People (STOP) kicked off their Public Service Announcement Campaign recently with two compelling videos that focus attention on the growing threat of human trafficking. Numerous incidences of human trafficking targeting young and vulnerable women for sexual exploitation are being reported across the country as we approach the World Cup Finals. STOP’s critical Public Awareness Campaign comes at a time of increased activity in the illegal sex industry including the proliferation of illegal brothels in residential areas across the country. Please support STOP’s Campaign by viewing their Public Service Announcement (PSA) videos and encouraging family, friends and your Church to view this important & informative clip. Pray that this campaign will be fully support by South Africans. Pray that believers will be watchful and take a stand in prayer on behalf of the innocent and the vulnerable.

Please pray for my marriage, there is an other woman involved. That this bound will be broken completely and that this marriage will be restored..

My prayer request is for my fiancé Sanitize D. He went on a business trip to Africa back in mid Dec. 09. His trip was supposed to be for only 3 days and now it is mid February.

During this trip he has faced many battles and so many obstacle we have believe God to deliver him from and get him home Safely. During this trip his life has been threaten physically and sickness come on him.

He is Gods anointed and I know God will deliver him. When he returns we have a a lot of work to do in the ministry for God. This week he was put in the Havana Hospital in Logos, Nigeria fighting the disease Meningitis. I have exhausted all my finances because of these problems that have occurred since DEC.. It has put my whole family in financial strain. I have planted seed faith at church and in constant prayer for our family delivered from this attack from Satan. We are standing on the word and God has given me peace and reassured me that it is His hand that will deliver him from this destruction it is only God Almighty who will get the praise. And To stand.. To keep standing...

Now, The doctors are telling me that they wont give him treatment because I cannot send the payment for the procedure and that it has spread into his lymphnoids and the result is death in this. They are only giving him pain killers.

I was upset because of this news and circumstances. I have no other answer the only way I can look is to God and praise Jesus for his promises. I praise God we are in a country that will help us when we are sick, I did not realize so many countries are selfish and money hungry and let peoples loose their lives and suffer. I know God is bigger than any of these problems...

Please lift our family up in prayer and stand in agreement with us for the manifestation of Gods hand to deliver our family from this attack. Thank you Pennie B.

“You don’t know how happy I was to learn that you remembered me!”

Dr Cristina Olázabal, the Peruvian human rights campaigner who was arrested in January, has contacted CSW to share how encouraging your cards and letters have been.

Last month we asked you to campaign for her release. She is still awaiting a decision on her case, so it’s vital that we keep her in our prayers.

It's been just over a month since the 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti. More than 250,000 people died. Even more were injured. Some continue to be among the walking wounded. Infections are common and now life-threatening. While lives are still at risk, many have already forgotten Haiti. The media has turned their attention elsewhere. The Church is encouraged to continue to cry out to God on behalf of the Haitians. Christians have been able to share their faith in the midst of tragedy. But the tragedy will grow as the rainy season hits. The rainy season is going to exacerbate the problem with diseases like cholera breaking out – a disease that is not common in Haiti. Then June comes around, the hurricane season. Pray that God would bless the relief efforts in Haiti, speeding them up and saving people from the suffering and hardships that they are currently facing. Pray that everyone would be able to get access to all the safe drinking water, food, immunisations and other medical treatment that they need. Pray that God would continue to act powerfully through Christian aid workers in Haiti, and that He would give them wisdom to serve the Haitian community.

Please pray for pastor John T.L., he is in Dubai for a crusade. Next week he is going to Pakistan for meetings. Pray for his safety and also for his family. R.
