Hunger games

Ashaninka children.
Children from an unreached, Ashaninka village in the Peruvian foothills of the Andes jostle for food prepared by Segadores (Harvesters), an indigenous Christian ministry. In one village, every Sunday 80 Ashaninka children show up for Bible study. The ministry then provides breakfast for them in spite of scant resources, with a team of Ashaninka volunteer teachers helping to keep the program self-sustaining. At another village, two of the ministry director’s disciples join her to teach the Bible at a primary school two times a week. “We travel in the back of a cargo truck,” she said. “There’s no transportation for going back, so often we have to walk three hours.” Segadores missionaries live by faith, trusting God to meet their needs. An indigenous missionary can be supported for $50 a month.
