Aimaq, Firozkohi in Afghanistan
"Aimaq" means "tribal people". The Firozkohi Aimaq
are one of the semi-nomadic tribes. The tribes were first identified in
the 16th and 17th centuries, when the groups were unified by chiefs
coming from outside the area. Tribalism is strong among all Aimaq
groups. For example, feuds tend to be settled by tribal rather than by
government authorities. The traditional concept of honor and shame,
which is very important in tribal law, is still stronger than Islamic or
state law. The Aimaq, in sharp contrast with other societies in rural
Afghanistan, accord women high status.Ministry Obstacles Afghanistan is not hospitable to any kind of Christian witness. Outreach Ideas Christians need to care genuinely about the physical and material needs of the Aimaq people, finding opportunities to assist them with educational needs, health care needs, and so forth. Pray for the followers of Christ There are almost no followers of Christ among the Aimaq tribes of Afghanistan. However, pray for those the Lord will soon call to himself. Pray they will be physically protected from harm, and also will not be unduly fearful. Pray they will learn to live fully in the power of the Lord's Spirit, demonstrating holy and joyful lives. Pray for the entire people group Pray for the Aimaq tribes to increasingly desire to know the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. Pray for peace in Afghanistan. Scripture Focus "I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring My salvation to the ends of the earth." Isaiah 49:6 |
