Iraqis
displaced by Islamic extremist atrocities have arrived by the thousands
in northern Iraq’s autonomous region of Kurdistan, some in camps such
as this one and others in abandoned buildings or dilapidated apartments.
Last December an indigenous ministry in Iraq held three Christmas
parties for displaced children, with about 500 children attending each
one. All children received Bibles, and those who made decisions for
Christ are now attending Sunday schools in tent churches. Preparing for
another Christmas outreach this year, the ministry seeks 30,000 New
Testaments in Arabic, Kurdish and Aramaic ( $2 each) and 10,000
children’s Bibles in Arabic and Kurdish ($5 each), as well as Bibles for
adults interested in Bible study. “We are preparing to reach the
displaced people and locals from Muslim, Yazidi and Kurdish upbringing,
and also [nominal] cultural Christians, with the Word of God,” the
director said. “We also provide the children with a small gift. We need
8,000 Christmas gifts [$5 each] for this year’s evangelistic outreaches.
Having the Christmas gifts will help us arrange Christmas events and
parties to invite kids from all over the area and tell them about Christ
and His birth story.”
