Susu, Soso of Senegal
Family is very important in Susu society, and Susu
often live as extended families. Although good social relationships are
valued, there are often conflicts with neighbors. Although Western
clothes can be obtained in the markets, most Susu women seem to prefer
African dress. The Susu are strongly Muslim but combine their Islamic
faith with traditional beliefs, such as the existence of spirits who
inhabit certain areas, and the belief in sorcerers who have the power to
change into animals, cast evil spells on people, or heal people from
ailments.Ministry Obstacles The Muslim Susu honor Jesus as a prophet but not as the Son of God. Outreach Ideas The New Testament is available in the Susu language, as are other good resources such as the Jesus film. Pray for workers to take these to the people. Pray for the followers of Christ There may be a handful of Christians among the Susu of Senegal. Pray for these and those who will soon join their numbers. Pray they live holy lives, and learn to walk in the power of God's Spirit. Pray for the entire people group Pray for improved medical facilities, and for clean drinking water for the Susu people. Scripture Focus "Through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations." Romans 1:5 |
