Pegagan of Indonesia
The Pegagan,
like other inhabitants of South Sumatra, are generally friendly, easy to
get along with and quite open. People who move into their area find it
easy to adapt to living with Pegagan neighbors. Rice farming is the
mainstay of the Pegagan people's livelihood. Additionally, they raise
fish in rivers, produce cloth embroidered with gold and silver thread,
and raise small livestock in order to supplement their income. All
Pegagan are Muslims. In many places, Islam is intertwined with
traditional customs. Many mosques in the Pegagan area are quite large
and the Pegagan are very active in religious devotion.
Ministry Obstacles
Lack of Christian workers, especially workers who are well prepared, is an obstacle to the advance of the Gospel. Jesus said to pray for workers.
Outreach Ideas
Pray that indigenous Indonesian Christian workers will be led to take the Gospel to the Pegagan. Pray for financial provision for these workers, and for love to be given them for the Pegagan people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may not be a single person within the Pegagan tribe who knows and follows Jesus. However, pray for the many who will soon come to saving faith. They will need teachers to help them, and they will need scripture and other resources. Pray they will live holy lives, in obedience to the commands of Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
One Pegagan district, Indralaya, is slated to become a buffer zone for the capital city of Palembang. Because of this, the area is beginning to develop. A need of the Pegagan is to leverage the advantages of this development for their benefit.
Scripture Focus
"For from the rising of the sun, even to its setting, My name will be great among the nations ... says the Lord of hosts." Malachi 1:11 |
