Ministry that Helps Refuges Needs Support to Allow it to Provide More Assistance

AMMAN, JORDAN. (ANS. FEB. 21 2015) Persecuted
throughout the Middle East, Christians are leaving places like Egypt,
Iraq and Palestine in droves, often ending up in refugee camps in
Jordan.
Jordan based Manara Ministries is actively involved in helping such people.
Harsh Winter Continues
In a recent letter made available to the ASSIST News Service,
Manara President Isam Ghattas talked about a dangerous mid-January
snowstorm, called “Huda.” It collapsed tents in camps choked with
refugees and unleashed flooding.
Ghattas said while in Amman people have been stockpiling food and fuel, it's a different story for refugee families.
“ (They) have no food, no fuel, and nothing to keep them warm but
the few pieces of clothing they snatched up as they fled. They crowd in
to ‘rooms’ that have thin walls, broken doors and missing windows, that
do little or nothing to protect them from the deadly, relentless cold.”
Distribution Trips
Ghattas said this month he and his staff visited two different
centers, where a large number of Christian Iraqi refugees live. They
received a hot meal, food parcels, shoes, boots, warm winter jackets and
toys for the children. Each child also received a special bag filled
with various snacks.
First Mobile Clinic in Erbil is Open
However, Manara’s assistance extends beyond Jordan. The ministry
recently opened a mobile clinic in Erbil, Northern Iraq. The mobile
clinic serves everyone unable to afford medical attention.
Ghattas said it contains five different medical specializations,
general doctor, gynecology, pharmacy, a lab and a dentist. It is located
near to a building occupied by refugees.
Ghattas said, “We thank God for his provision, and we pray this
clinic will be a source of comfort for those who are in desperate need.”
Ghattas said Manara International is working on a number of
projects to assist as many Christian refugees as possible. However,
they need help.
He said, “We can only pray that like-minded organizations can help us, so we in turn can help the victims all around us.”
