Teli, Muslim of Pakistan
The word 'Teli'
is derived from the Sanskrit word 'tailika' or 'tails', which means oil
pressed from seeds. The community are traditionally manufacturers of
mustard or sesame oil. According to their tradition, their ancestor
Luqman was apprenticed to the Biblical King David. Luqman is said to
have first started the oil extraction profession. It is said that
Luqman's ancestor was the Prophet Ayoub (Biblical Job). The Teli have
community councils and also formal community associations. Their
councils or panchayats are sub-divided into circles made up of 10 to 20
villages. The Teli belong to the Sunni sect of Islam, and offerings are
also made to Ghazi Mian.
Ministry Obstacles
Spiritual opposition to the Christian Gospel in Pakistan is intense, as well as opposition from mankind. Constant, fervent prayer is needed.
Outreach Ideas
Pray that believers will share the God of David and Job with them. Pray that the Holy Spirit will even now be working in their hearts to accept these messengers.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are no reported Christians among the Teli of Pakistan. Please pray the Lord will soon call many to himself. Perhaps he will appear to some in visions or dreams as he has among several Muslims.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for those in the Teli community unable to care for themselves. Pray especially for children who do not have a good family to take care of them.
Scripture Focus
"All nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord, they will bring glory to your name." Psalm 86:9 |
