Bhangi, Muslim of Pakistan
The Bhangi, a
Scheduled Caste in India, were traditionally associated with scavenging,
sweeping, basket-making, etc. In the colonial period they were brought
into urban areas to perform the first two roles and they became an urban
community. The majority are employed by the municipality as scavengers.
In addition, they also prepare bamboo articles and work as
drum-beaters. A few of the Bhangi living in cities are educated. Most
Bhangi in South Asia are Hindu, but a sizable subgroup is Muslim, living
in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
Ministry Obstacles
The Bhangi speak several languages, as most communities do in South Asia. Separate church planting projects may be needed for each language subgroup.
Outreach Ideas
The Gospel of Christ needs to come to these people primarily in oral form. Pray for workers who know how to communicate the Gospel in story form, and also for videos and recordings to be made available to these people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are no reported Christians among the Muslim Bhangi community, in any country of residence. Please pray the Lord will begin stirring the hearts of these people to find forgiveness for their sin. Pray they will be given growing interest in Isa (Jesus) as he is known in the Koran, and will be drawn to who Jesus truly is.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for improving literacy rates among the Bhangi, and for a better standard of living. They have been among the Untouchable castes, and this stigma needs to be removed.
Scripture Focus
"The Lord of hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all peoples on this mountain.. And on this mountain He will swallow up the covering which is over all peoples, Even the veil which is stretched over all nations. He will swallow up death for all time." Isaiah 25:6-8 |
