Mru, Mro of Bangladesh

Mru, Mro of Bangladesh
The Mru are primarily located in the region where the borders of India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar intersect. The tribal Mru are a very isolated people, mainly because of a national policy restricting visitors in the strategic border areas and prohibiting outsiders from obtaining land there. They are a very poor people. Although they inhabit a region that is rich in lumber and hydroelectric potential, the villagers lack the technology and knowledge to improve their economic conditions. The Mru excuse their poverty because they believe that Torai intended them to live this way. There are no educational facilities among the Mru. Virtually all of the Mru of India and Bangladesh practice a mixture of Buddhism and ethnic religions. They worship the gods of fire, water, and the forest, and Torai, the great spirit.
Ministry Obstacles
The Mru have a very low literacy rate, and the Gospel needs to come to them in both oral and written forms.
Outreach Ideas
Please pray that workers trained in telling stories from scripture will be able to contact the Mru, and that the Mru tribe will welcome them.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are some in the Mru community who have reported themselves as Christians to the census. Please pray these people will come to a clear understanding of what it means to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Mru tribe will see the importance of preparing their youth to cope in this rapidly changing age. They need to know how to read, and they need skills to make themselves employable.
