In a way, all Indians are Sindhis, because territorially they derive their identity from the river Sindhu or Indus. However, there is one community known as the Sindhi. Social division exists on the basis of occupation. The prevailing religion of the Sindhi is a blend of two faiths. They worship Shiva, the river god Jhulelal, and Mother goddess.

Ministry Obstacles
Sindis in the United States may encounter only nominal Christians, presenting a partially false picture of who Christ is and what He accomplished on the cross.

Outreach Ideas
There are many zealous Christian believers in the United States. Pray that some be given a heart to carry the Gospel message to the Sindhi.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few Christian believers among the Sindhi in the U.S., that they will be properly instructed in the faith and will grow into mature believers, honoring Christ with the quality of their lives. Pray they will know Christ's love that surpasses knowledge.

Pray that each individual of the Sindhi community will increasingly realize his or her opportunity to know forgiveness of sin and new life found in Jesus Christ.

Pendahuluan/Sejarah

Yali atau Yalimo berasal dari kata "Yali" yang berarti 'tempat matahari terbit' (timur) dan suku kata "mo" dari morfem "mu" yang menunjukkan tempat. Jadi, secara harfiah, Yalimu adalah nama salah satu kelompok masyarakat atau suku yang mendiami daerah yang dianggap paling timur di Pulau Papua. Nama Yali juga diambil dari bahasa yang digunakan oleh orang Yali sebagai alat komunikasi mereka. Nama Yali atau Yalimu tidak diberikan setelah masyarakat Yali mengenal Injil, tetapi sudah ada sejak nenek moyang orang Yali memilih dan menempati daerah Yali sebagai daerah mereka.

Kehidupan

Suku Yali membentuk kampung-kampung kecil yang tersebar di daerah pegunungan tengah di sekitar lembah raksasa Baliem. Namun, orang Yali juga terbagi-bagi menurut bahasa, dialek, dan budayanya, antara lain, Yali Mek dan Yali Moo. Masyarakat Anggruk sendiri memilih disebut Yali saja.

Seni dan Budaya

1. Pernikahan

Dalam pernikahan, masyarakat suku Yali menggunakan "wam" (babi) sebagai mas kawin. Namun, sangat disayangkan, budaya ini lambat laun mengalami pergeseran.

2. Kesenian

Kesenian masyarakat Yali adalah Yunggul (dansa) yang dilakukan dengan berlari kecil sambil berkeliling. Senjata masyarakat suku Yali adalah busur dan panah. Masyarakat Yali mempelajari obat–obatan tradisional, seperti Yabi, yaitu sejenis daun gatal yang digunakan untuk obat sakit badan dan penyakit lainnya.

Kepercayaan

Sebelum Injil masuk, masyarakat suku Yali menganut kepercayaan animisme seperti masyarakat Papua pada umumnya. Mereka sangat percaya kepada benda atau makhluk hidup lain yang disebut sebagai "Kembu", yang dipercaya sebagai Tuhan mereka. Jika mereka sakit, mereka memberikan korban persembahan kepada Kembu tersebut, yaitu berupa babi (wam) yang langsung disembelih dan diserahkan kepada kepala suku (Yuwa Enap). Babi tersebut tidak boleh disentuh oleh kaum wanita (homi, hweap). Yuwa adalah rumah adat laki-laki, dikhususkan untuk kaum laki-laki dan Kembu mereka. Kembu adalah penyembahan yang sangat nyata. Jika berperang, mereka akan memakai kekuatan dari Kembu, dan Kembu dipercaya selalu menyatakan dirinya sesuai dengan kepercayaan mereka. Namun, setelah Injil masuk, 99% masyarakat suku Yali memeluk agama Kristen Protestan.

The area inhabited by the Shixing has a long and rich history. Their villages are "guarded by watchtowers erected by powerful Naxi kings several hundred years ago." The Naxi's interest in the region may have been due to the abundance of gold once found in the Shou Chu River. There has never been a known believer or Christian fellowship among the Shixing people.

I am afraid that we do not truly appreciate the fact that God has never given us things, but has summed up everything into Christ, having poured Himself into His Son. Having the Son, possessing the Son, being one with the Son, we have and possess everything God is. It never has been a question of seeking ten, one hundred, or one thousand different things from God. Why Does God want us to Pray for Others? (Writer's Opinion)

GROVE, OK (ANS – May 21, 2017) -- “Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy upon them; give thanks for all he is going to do for them” -- 1 Timothy 2:1 (TLB).

I listened as a friend prayed with me over the phone about a family situation. Melita is a true prayer warrior, and I treasure our bond as sisters-in-Christ.

I had called, leaving a voice message when she didn’t answer. I didn’t expect to hear back until the next day. It was late. However, my friend returned the call before she retired for the night. I was humbled by this beautiful friend’s willingness to return my call so late, even though she has to rise early each morning for work.

Having friends who will stand with you during trials is important. Even more important are those who will drop what they are doing to pray with you when asked.

I’ve learned to pray immediately when someone texts, emails or calls asking for prayer. If I don’t pray at the time of the request, I forget. I also add the person’s name and request to my list so I can continue to pray for God’s intervention or direction for an individual.

God instructs us to pray for others in several places in the Bible. In James 5:16, the apostle writes: “Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results.”

When asked to pray for someone I’ve never met—usually through email or a private message on Facebook—I not only pray for that person’s need, but I also ask them to let me know the outcome. Sometimes, I hear back the same day. Other times, it’s months or even years before I know the results.

In an article by Mike Bennett, he writes, “...intercessory prayer reflects God’s own character of outgoing love and mercy. God wants us to think like He does, and praying for others helps us to think beyond ourselves and to grow in compassion for others.”

Bennett offers these biblical principles for effective intercessory prayer. We should pray:• From the heart.

• Regularly. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus told us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” We should pray for our needs and the needs of others every day.
• In detail. God wants us to come to Him with all our specific requests because He likes to hear from us and to know what is important to us.
• With faith. We must believe our all-powerful God loves the people in our prayers.
• With love. Godly love is totally unselfish—the essence of God’s character.
• Fervently. James 5:16 tells us “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
• With a desire to help where we can. Although this might include physical help and encouragement, it’s not wrong to tell someone you’re praying for him or her.
• Occasionally, with fasting. I’ve fasted when a situation is serious to draw closer to God and present my supplication to Him.

MISIONARIS ASING DI INDONESIA

Indonesia telah menjadi ladang pekerjaan misi semenjak abad ke-16. Hal itu terjadi seiring dengan kedatangan pedagang-pedagang Portugis ke wilayah nusantara untuk mencari rempah-rempah. Maluku menjadi wilayah pertama yang menghasilkan petobat baru, dengan dibaptisnya orang Katolik pertama, Kolano Mamuya (seorang kepala kampung), beserta seisi kampungnya setelah menerima pemberitaan Injil dari Gonzalo Veloso pada tahun 1534. Lalu, terjadilah gelombang kedatangan biarawan-biarawan Fransiskan dan Fransiskus Xaverius untuk menginjili Kepulauan Ambon, Saparua, dan Ternate. Indonesia Timur, dengan demikian, menjadi wilayah Indonesia yang pertama-tama mengenal terang keselamatan dari Tuhan. Sebagai dampak dari hal tersebut, Indonesia Timur saat ini menjadi wilayah yang memiliki jumlah populasi dengan angka kekristenan tertinggi di Indonesia. Kemudian, setelah VOC, yang dikuasai oleh golongan Protestan, memukul mundur kekuasan Portugis di Indonesia, gereja Katolik dilarang berkarya di berbagai wilayah, kecuali di wilayah Flores dan Timor, yang tidak termasuk dalam wilayah VOC. Seiring berjalannya waktu, pendeta-pendeta Protestan dari Belanda serta Jerman mulai menjalankan misi pekabaran Injil di seluruh wilayah Indonesia. Era misi Zending kemudian mewarnai pekerjaan misi di berbagai wilayah di Indonesia dengan melakukan berbagai karya, termasuk pendidikan untuk anak-anak. Pekabaran Injil di Indonesia pun mencapai puncaknya pada abad ke-19. Meski pada awalnya pekerjaan misi sangat kental dengan nuansa politik, ekonomi, etnologis, dan militer, tetapi Tuhan tetap bekerja bagi bangsa Indonesia melalui berbagai situasi yang ada.

Banyak orang menjadi percaya sehingga gereja-gereja, sekolah, rumah sakit, serta yayasan Kristen berdiri untuk ikut mendukung misi pekabaran Injil. Misionaris-misionaris, seperti: Joseph Kam, Ingwer Ludwig Nommensen, Robert A. Jaffray, Don Richardson, dan masih banyak nama lain yang tidak kita ketahui, adalah orang-orang yang menjadi alat Allah untuk memperkenalkan Injil dan kerajaan-Nya kepada masyarakat Indonesia di berbagai wilayah. Mereka adalah orang-orang yang dipanggil secara khusus oleh Allah untuk datang ke Indonesia, meninggalkan kenyamanan hidup di negaranya, dan tinggal bersama suku-suku yang belum mengenal Kristus. Cuaca panas, ancaman penyakit-penyakit tropis, bahkan ancaman terhadap keselamatan nyawa menjadi bagian yang sering kali harus mereka terima sebagai misionaris, terutama di daerah pedalaman yang tertinggal dari segi sarana prasarana. Selain itu, mereka juga harus tinggal selama bertahun-tahun bersama masyarakat setempat, mempelajari budaya dan bahasa mereka. Mereka juga menerjemahkan Alkitab ke dalam bahasa setempat serta mengerjakan karya-karya sosial di bidang kesehatan, pendidikan, dan keterampilan. Meski ada banyak wilayah di Indonesia yang belum menerima Injil karena alasan kultural, sistem religi, dan persoalan politik, tetapi Injil sudah dibagikan oleh para misionaris ini kepada masyarakat Indonesia di berbagai wilayah. Mari terus doakan supaya pekerjaan Injil dapat terus dilakukan di Indonesia.

Sebagai negara kepulauan yang memiliki banyak suku, bahasa, budaya, adat, serta pola pikir yang sangat beragam, Indonesia menjadi salah satu negara yang memiliki tantangan misi tersendiri bagi para misionaris. Sebagai contoh, dengan 719 bahasa daerah yang dimiliki, ada banyak penutur asli di Indonesia yang memiliki kebutuhan untuk memiliki Alkitab dalam bahasa suku mereka sendiri, yang belum terpenuhi sampai saat ini. Dari 719 bahasa tersebut, hanya sekitar 133 bahasa yang memiliki sebagian terjemahan Alkitab, dan baru 17 daerah yang memiliki terjemahan Alkitab lengkap. Sebagai dasar bagi penyebaran Injil, tentu para misionaris asing ini juga membutuhkan Alkitab dalam bahasa suku yang akan mempermudah pekerjaan mereka untuk memperkenalkan kebenaran sejati kepada para penutur asli. Menarik untuk diketahui dari berbagai fakta sejarah dan statistik, ada banyak suku di banyak daerah pedalaman di Indonesia yang justru pertama-tama mengenal Kristus melalui karya para misionaris ini. Sungguh, kita patut bersyukur kepada Tuhan untuk karya dan pekerjaan-Nya yang dilakukan melalui para misionaris di Indonesia.

Pokok Doa

1. Berdoalah bagi para misionaris dan keluarganya. Kiranya Tuhan senantiasa memelihara kehidupan dan sukacita mereka di tengah-tengah berbagai kendala dan pergumulan yang harus mereka hadapi.

2, Mari berdoa bagi yayasan-yayasan misi yang menjadi badan pengutus/pengirim para misionaris. Kiranya Tuhan terus memelihara karya dan pekerjaan mereka di Indonesia dan berbagai bangsa.

3. Berdoalah bagi para misionaris yang harus menghadapi berbagai ancaman serta penolakan dari berbagai pihak yang menentang keberadaan mereka. Kiranya Tuhan Yesus terus melindungi, menjaga, dan memberi kekuatan kepada mereka untuk terus memberitakan Injil.

The homeland of the Azeris was first conquered by the Persians in the sixth century BC. Islam was introduced into the area during the seventh century, AD. Azerbaijani settlements were traditionally divided into villages made up of extended families. In an attempt to protect their culture, marriage within the family was encouraged, often between cousins. Religious practices are less restrictive of women's activities than in some Muslim countries. Many women have jobs outside the home.

The Azeris have centuries of historical commitment to Islam, not easily changed.
Outreach Ideas
Georgian Christians may be able to carry the Gospel message to the Azeris. Gospel radio may also be helpful.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the followers of Jesus among the Azeri, that they will faithfully fellowship together, be well-taught in the Scriptures, and grow to become mature in the Lord. Pray they will be made new in the attitude of their minds.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray that the Azeris will increasingly be drawn to Isa (Jesus) as they study the Koran, that they will desire to know more about this Man.
