Pray for Kerinci of Indonesia

Kerinci of Indonesia
A village of Keinci is called a dusun and is inhabited by one clan that has descended from one common female ancestor. A mother's clan is called the kelbu. This kelbu is considered the most important family unit. Islam is the majority religion of the Kerinci, but they still hold to animism, especially as it is exhibited by their use of traditional healers and magic. In their everyday life they often refer to tataman (meeting ghosts), tatampo (being hit by ghosts), and tapijek anaok antau (being stepped on by ghosts).

Ministry Obstacles
Following Jesus can bring fear of upsetting the spirits, as well as upsetting the community.

Outreach Ideas
Christians need to minister to the physical and material needs of the Kerinci, building bridges of trust.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There are few Christian believers among the Kerinci community today. Pray for these few, and pray for the additional believers that will soon join them. Pray they will faithfully fellowship together, and will grow in understanding and applying the truth of Scripture.

Pray for the entire people group
This group is quite fortunate to live in a fertile area. But they need to increase their use of appropriate technology to improve their farming and rain-forest productivity.

Scripture Focus
"And those who lead many to righteousness [will shine] like the stars for ever and ever." Daniel 12:3

Pray for Nosu, Tianba of China

Nosu, Tianba of China
Violent conflict, inter-tribal and inter-clan warfare, and the taking of slaves were commonplace among the various branches of the Nosu until recently. The War songs were equally awe inspiring: "We are the famous Black Nosu! We are the tigers who eat up human flesh! We are the butchers who skin people alive! We are the supermen!'" The Tianba Nosu have been influenced by Chinese culture more than the other Nosu groups in Sichuan, although they still retain their traditional dress and most of their ceremonies and customs.

Ministry Obstacles
These people may have little concept of a loving, forgiving creator God.

Outreach Ideas
Sustained, focused prayer is needed to prepare these people to receive the good news of Christ.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be no followers of Christ among the Tianba Nosu today, but pray for those that will soon emerge from this group. Pray they will be kind and compassionate to one another.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Tianba Nosu may overcome their history of violence, and increasingly hunger to know the Prince of peace.

Scripture Focus
"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?' Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest." John 4:35

Pray for Sanye of Kenya

Sanye of Kenya
The Sanye live in the forests of Kenya along the Tana river, Lamu District. They practice a mixture of Islam and animism, and have a low literacy rate.

Ministry Obstacles
Reliance on printed material to reach the Sanye may not be helpful, given the low literacy rate.

Outreach Ideas
The low literacy rate suggests that oral communication of the Gospel message may be most appropriate. Gospel recordings, films, and Scripture stories could be very effective. The mixture of Islam and animism in their belief system may indicate less dogmatism than might otherwise be true.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few believers among the Sanye, that they may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Sanye may soon have improved educational opportunities for their children. Also pray that each individual in the tribe may hear the Gospel message in his mother tongue and presented in an understandable manner.

Scripture Focus
"Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders. And blessed be His glorious name forever; And may the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen, and Amen." Psalm 72:18-19

Pray for Ghao-Xong, Eastern of China

Ghao-Xong, Eastern of China
During the Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279) the Ghao-Xong staged 112 wars to save their tribal lands and preserve their way of life. The Miao (Ghao-Xong) people in Hunan seem to have been badly oppressed by the Chinese over a long period of time. The Ghao-Xong have the custom of worshiping Pan Hu, the dragon-dog they claim as their ancestor. Most of their villages are on the top of mountains where they are able to maintain their customs in privacy.

Ministry Obstacles
The Ghao-Xong may have little concept of a transcendent creator God who desires to express His love to them.

Outreach Ideas
The existing believers among the Ghao-Xong may become mature enough in the Lord to carry the Gospel effectively to their neighbors and friends. Pray for them.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There are known followers of Christ among the Ghao-Xong, which is very encouraging. Pray for these people to become firmly established on the truths of Scripture, trusting fully in the finished work of Christ for their salvation and for his Holy Spirit to produce the fruit of Christ's character.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Ghao-Xong people to be able to provide good schools for their children, and to have adequate means to provide for their families.

Scripture Focus
"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest." Matthew 9:37-38

Pray for Gujjars of Pakistan

Gujjars of Pakistan
The Gurjara clan appeared in northern India in about the fifth century AD. During the Muslim conquest in the Indian subcontinent, many of the Gurjar Hindus converted to Islam. Gujjars are mainly concentrated in the Indo-Gangetic plains, the Himalayan region, and eastern parts of Afghanistan, but some are established in Pakistan. Gujjars have given their names to several places in Pakistan, including Gujranwala, Gujjar Nallah, Gujar Khan, Gojra and Gujrat.

Ministry Obstacles
Centuries of commitment to a religion that denies the deity of Jesus is not quickly overcome.

Outreach Ideas
Much prayer is needed for the Gujjar community. Pray also for workers.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There are few if any followers of Jesus among the Gujjar community, but pray for those that will soon come forth. Pray the Lord will send them qualified pastors and teachers, and pray that Scripture will be readily available to them.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray that the large Gujjar community in Pakistan, and in other countries, may be strongly drawn to the man Jesus. May the Spirit of Jesus give them a hunger to find out more.

Scripture Focus
"Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised." 1 Chronicles 16:24-25

Pray for Azerbaijani, North of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani, North of Azerbaijan
The homeland of the Azeris was first conquered by the Persians in the sixth century BC. Islam was introduced into the area during the seventh century, AD. Azerbaijani settlements were traditionally divided into villages made up of extended families. In an attempt to protect their culture, marriage within the family was encouraged, often between cousins. Religious practices are less restrictive of women's activities than in some Muslim countries. Many women have jobs outside the home.

Ministry Obstacles
The Azeris have centuries of historical commitment to Islam, not easily changed.

Outreach Ideas
Georgian Christians may be able to carry the gospel message to the Azeris. Gospel radio may also be helpful.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the followers of Jesus among the Azeri, that they will faithfully fellowship together, be well-taught in the Scriptures, and grow to become mature in the Lord. Pray they will be made new in the attitude of their minds.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray that the Azeris will increasingly be drawn to Isa (Jesus) as they study the Koran, that they will desire to know more about this Man.

Scripture Focus
"Give thanks to the Lord, call on His Name; make known among the nations what He has done." Psalm 105:1

Lampung Peminggir of Indonesia

Lampung Peminggir of Indonesia
One of the key principles of the Lampung Peminggir is that of Pi-il Pesenggiri, which means, "guarding one's dignity above all else." They usually live a simple life, yet they love to receive honor or praise. They typically do not hesitate to spend huge sums on ritual celebrations. The Lampung Peminggir are followers of Sunni Shafi'i Islam.

Ministry Obstacles
The good news of grace found in the finished work of Jesus Christ is difficult for these people to comprehend and accept.

Outreach Ideas
Scriptures, the Jesus film, and Gospel recordings are available in the language of these people. Pray for workers.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the believers among this people group, that they will know that it is by grace they have been saved, not of works that they may not boast.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Gospel to soon be made available to each individual in this community, in their own language, and in a manner they can understand and believe.

Scripture Focus
