Once
a wealthy farmer in Syria, an 81-year-old Syrian lost everything he had
spent his life building in one night after he had to flee invading
jihadists. Human traffickers took the only items of value he was able to
carry to sneak him into Turkey. Reduced to poverty in a makeshift camp
for refugees in southern Turkey, “he is all the time crying,” the
director of an indigenous ministry said. The once-rich man complained
that many came to the camp to take his photo with promises of aid, but
that no one brought anything. “When we came back two weeks later with
aid made possible by Christian Aid Mission, he hugged me and cried,” the
director said. “He said, ‘You are a real man, because you keep your
word.’” The needs of the elderly man and 6,000 other refugees in the
area continue to grow.
