SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (January 13, 2016)
-- Dr. Mitch Land and his wife were on their way to Dallas-Fort Worth
airport to pick up his son’s family joining them for a delayed Christmas
celebration when he got a startling text from his daughter.
“Tornadoes
have taken our house,” the text read. A terrible feeling gripped his
heart, the same feeling he had several years ago after his son was hit
and killed by a drunk driver, he conveyed to CBN News.
This can’t be real, he thought.
His
daughter texted back and said, “Yes, it’s true. The lights went out at
the house and it is completely dark but the roof is gone over the study
and windows shattered in the master bedroom.”
She informed him that her house across the street in Rowlett, Texas, was completely destroyed.
The
reason for Dr. Land’s grave concern was he and his wife left 22 family
members at the house when they headed to the airport, including his
82-year-old mother. They had four generations under one roof when the
tornado bore down with incredible fury.
Dr. Mitch Land is dean of the School of Communication and the Arts at Regent University.
“Driving in the car I didn’t know how many were going to be alive, how many were going to be dead or injured.
